Choosing A Company To Fence In Your Yard

Posted on

Having a fenced-in yard can be so freeing. You can let your dog outside and let them roam unattended. You can enjoy privacy from your neighbor, and you can have greater confidence in your kids' safety when they're outside. But before you can enjoy time in a fenced-in yard, you need to hire a company to install your fence. Here are some tips to help you through that process.

Choose a company that installs several types of fencing

There are many different materials that can be used to make a fence. Cedar, oak, and pine are some common woods you can choose from. Other options include composite, vinyl, and aluminum. If possible, it is best to find a fencing company that installs more than one kind of fence. This way, they can tell you more about the various materials and how they compare. They can then help you choose the best fence material to meet your needs. A company that only installs one or two materials may not be able to tell you as much or give you as many options.

Get more than one quote

Fencing jobs are not as big or extensive as roofing, siding, or window jobs. However, a good fence still costs a few thousand dollars, so there is some room for variety in what companies charge. Get at least two or three different quotes before you choose a company to install your fence. Sometimes, if companies know you're getting multiple quotes, they'll be willing to give you a discount on fencing.

Establish whether the price includes finishing

This applies to wood fencing, but not really to vinyl or composite fencing. Wood fencing is often installed unfinished. It needs to age for a few months before it is then painted or sealed. Ask the fence company whether the price they quote you includes this painting. Some companies will include it in your quote and come back to finish the fence later on. Other companies will charge you separately for the finishing when they actually do the work. And some companies don't even finish fences; they leave that part to you. Just make sure you know what to expect in terms of finishing if you get a wood fence.

Hiring a fence company is not that hard, but the tips above can really help. Before long, your yard will be fenced in, and your life will be improved.
